HCS Control Systems Ltd is a winner at the RoSPA Health and Safety Awards 2017.
HCS have achieved the Gold Medal Award (6 consecutive years running) in this prestigious annual scheme run by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).
We will be presented with the award during a ceremony at the Hilton Glasgow hotel on Thursday, September 14, 2017. The award was achieved during a special year for family-safety charity RoSPA, as it celebrates its centenary.
Through the RoSPA Awards scheme, which is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas, judges consider entrants’ overarching occupational health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement. The awards are now in its 61st year.

The majority of awards are non-competitive and mark achievement at merit, bronze, silver and gold levels. Gold medals, president’s awards and orders of distinction are presented to organisations sustaining the high standards of the gold level over consecutive years. For the first time in 2017, the Patron’s Award has been presented to those organisations that have achieved consecutive gold awards for 25 years or more.
Competitive awards go to the best entries in 24 industry sectors including construction, healthcare, transport and logistics, engineering, manufacturing and education.
There are specialist awards for occupational health, environmental management and fleet safety, and excellence trophies for the best international, new entry, workforce involvement and organisation operating or based in Scotland. RoSPA’s top accolade is the Sir George Earle Trophy.

Over the past 15 years, HCS have built a substantial library of approved welding procedures to ASME, EN 15614 and client specific specifications to some of the major oil and gas companies.
Production welding complies with all the latest recognised standards such as: NORSOK M101, ASME IX, AWS D1.1, DNV and ISO EN 15614-1.
Typical projects completed at HCS facility include: Offshore shipping baskets, umbilical reeler frames, HPU frames, umbilical termination assemblies, subsea jumper deployment frames, stainless steel reservoir tanks, mud mat structures, sheaves and containers.
All projects are manufactured from a set of drawings created by the engineering department and internal manufacturing procedures. The engineer will create a model from a concept and will work with the client until all specifications and objective requirements are met. Models are run through computerised stress analysis on Solid Works software, typically for lifting and pressurised parts. Further calculation are run by the engineer to ensure the design is within the requirements.
The engineering design phase is a key step to mitigate potential risks and to further satisfy the project objectives, schedule and budget.
HCS are familiar with many standards such as: DNV 2.7-1, DNV 2.22, DNV E273, ATEX, IECEx, Machinery Directive, CE Marking and NORSOK.

ORBITAL WELDING: All pipe welds were prepared and welded using fully coded / compliant procedures by HCS approved operators. In-house qualified weld inspectors completed a visual inspection including boroscope, where access permitted.
NDT: All welds undertaken were 100% radiographed (NDT) to ensure there are no defects in the weld.
STRENGTH: The piping system was pressure tested to further test the strength of every weld. The system was flushed to ensure that the specified cleanliness was achieved.
IN-HOUSE / ON-SITE: All pipe weld and repair work was carried out in-house by HCS Control Systems. Full project management was also undertaken by HCS. This ensured the customer was kept up to date on every stage of the project, including schedule, scope, budget and completion.
