HCS Control Systems design and manufacture subsea production equipment such as Subsea Umbilical Termination Units (SUTU), Umbilical Termination Assemblies (UTA) and Topside Umbilical Termination Units (TUTU).
Design and manufacture are carried out in-house and we have experience with a wide range of umbilical systems and Client, Operator and Industry Design Guidelines and Standards.
In addition to the Umbilical Termination Assemblies and structures, HCS Control Systems have designed and delivered mudmat foundation systems, again with full integration / compatibility testing being completed prior to delivery.
Topside Umbilical Termination Units (TUTU).
The Topside Umbilical Termination Unit (TUTU) provides the interface between the main umbilical and the topside control equipment. The unit is a free standing enclosure that can be bolted or welded in a location adjacent to the umbilical hang-off in a hazardous exposed environment onboard the topside facility. These units are usually tailor-made to customer requirements with a view to hydraulic, pneumatic, power, signal, fiber optic, and material selection.
The TUTU usually incorporates electrical junction boxes for the electrical power and communication cables, as well as tube work, gauges, and block and bleed valves for the appropriate hydraulic and chemical supplies.
The main functions of Umbilical Termination Units are to:
• Provide hydraulic power to subsea control systems, such as to open/close valves
• Provide electric power and control signals to subsea control systems
• Deliver production chemicals for subsea injection at tree or downhole
• Deliver gas for gas lift operation
(Subsea) Umbilical Termination Assembly (SUTU)
The Subsea Umbilical Termination Assembly, sitting on top of a mud mat, is a multi-plexed electro-hydraulic system that allows many subsea control modules to be connected to the same communications, electrical and hydraulic supply lines. The result is that many wells can be controlled via one umbilical. From the UTA, the connections to the individual wells and SCMs are made with jumper assemblies.
For these critical subsea systems, the highest connection integrity is required for the instrument tubing connections within the SUTU, and HCS are qualified to perform both orbital and autogenous welding in-house, to the highest standards.
